The Fort of Kelibia: A Majestic Byzantine Fortress

Visit the famous Borj Kelibia, a historical citadel offering the best panoramic view of Cap Bon and the Mediterranean Sea.

A Historical Monument Overlooking the Mediterranean

Proudly dominating the city of Kelibia from its 150-meter rocky promontory, the Fort of Kelibia (or Borj Kelibia) is one of the most emblematic monuments of Tunisia. Just 15 minutes from your apartment at Diar El Horri, it is an essential part of your stay.

This fortress, whose foundations date back to the Punic era, was consolidated by the Byzantines in the 6th century before being remodeled over the centuries by the Arabs, the Spanish, and the Ottomans.

Why Climb to the Fort?

  • Breathtaking View: From the top of its ramparts, you have a unique 360° panorama of the fishing port of Kelibia, the famous Mansourah beach, and on a clear day, you can even spot the coastline of Sicily.
  • Military Architecture: Explore the massive polygonal enclosure, square towers, and the entrance gate protected by its barbican.
  • Thousand-Year History: Inside, discover the remains of ancient Roman cisterns, a 9th-century mosque, and a small Byzantine chapel.
