The Cap Bon Lighthouse: Sentinel of the Mediterranean

Visit one of Africa's northernmost points. A grandiose panorama between sea and sky, a site steeped in maritime history.

At the Edge of Africa

About 20 minutes from Diar El Horri, heading towards El Haouaria, stands the Cap Bon Lighthouse. Here, on this rocky headland, Africa literally plunges into the Mediterranean.

A Historical Landmark

The current lighthouse, built in the 19th century, watches over one of the world’s busiest straits: the Strait of Sicily. On a very clear day, you can see the island of Pantelleria and make out the Italian coastline. It has been a strategic location since antiquity, having witnessed Phoenician, Roman, and Byzantine fleets.

An Exceptional Panorama

The site offers a breathtaking view:

  • The El Haouaria Cliffs: Steep walls plunging into a deep blue sea.
  • Biodiversity: Cap Bon is a major crossing point for migratory birds. You can spot birds of prey and many other species in season here.
  • The Infinite Horizon: Being at the tip of the peninsula gives a unique sense of being at the edge of the world.

Why Go There?

It is one of Tunisia’s wildest and most majestic landscapes. The force of the wind, the vastness of the horizon, and the raw beauty of the coastline make it an unforgettable stop for photographers and nature lovers.

Practical Information

  • Access: 20–25 minutes by car from Dar Allouch.
  • Diar El Horri Tip: This is the perfect spot for a panoramic picnic. Bring a light jacket, as the wind can be strong at the tip of the Cape.

After braving the winds of Cap Bon, return to the warmth and comfort of Diar El Horri.
